The project supports the European Commission in preparing for the 2026 UN Water Conference and its follow-up, while contributing to the implementation of the international dimension of the EU Water Resilience Strategy. It provides technical, analytical, organisational and communication support to DG Environment in the context of the global water agenda. This is the second time that Fresh Thoughts gets the opportunity to support the EC on that topic.
Together with Ecologic, Milieu and other consortium partners, the project combines policy expertise, international water cooperation experience and practical event support.
The work focuses on four connected areas:
- Supporting the EU’s contribution to the global water agenda, including the preparation of inputs for the 2026 UN Water Conference, related high-level meetings and follow-up activities. As part of the communication work, the project supports the preparation of the EU Water Pavilion at the 2026 UN Water Conference, helping to showcase EU action on SDG 6.
- Tracking and communicating progress on the European Commission’s Water Action Agenda commitments, while helping to identify relevant examples, messages and materials for international outreach.
- Contributing to the international actions of the EU Water Resilience Strategy, with attention to water diplomacy, strategic partnerships, transboundary cooperation, water efficiency, reuse and global water resilience.
